The metfone C-League to resume on September 1st, should there be no more lockdowns and assuming the information we have received is correct. The news follows on from the end of the 21 day lockdown in Phnom Penh, as well as the imminent resumption of alcohol sales (we hope).

C-League to resume on September 1st – Football’s coming home again….

C-League to resume

The C-League, the top tier of football in Cambodia had started off in fine form alongside the Hun Sen Cup (HSC), before the hookers and the like caused the February 20th incident. We will not go too much into that whole affair, for it has been dealt with in other publications.

It did though mean a suspension of the season until things finally resumed in July. Sadly football was ended again rather quickly by the beginning of August and the latest lcodkown to rock the Kingdom.

When exactly will the season start and what is the schedule?

Khmer Nights have seen a tentative schedule from the Cambodian National Championship Committee (CNCC), the body that oversees the the top level of football in the Kingdom and although not yet official does give some juicy infuriation.

You can check the CNCC Facebook here

September 1st will see Solito Angkor FC face National Police, with September 2nd having Phnom Penh Crown FC facing Tiffy Army FC. After that it is “schedule as normal”, although with teams playing much more in order to catch up with missed games.

The current schedule has games listed until the 15th September, with no further fixtures yet announced.

And what about the Hun Sen Cup?

The Hun Sen Cup, HSC, or Prime-Ministers cup works as not only the national knock-out competition, but also as the C-League 2 – defining who get promoted to the top tier.

As of now there is no news on fixtures for the cup, nor whether it will be completed at all, with a Khmer Nights source with links to the authorities stating “there may not be any promotion or relegation this season”.

We anxiously look forward to being able to share the football schedule with you, when we are allowed of course.
